Recently, a bunch of fake Disney Facebook pages have popped up promising everything from a free cruise to an all-inclusive week-long Walt Disney World Vacation. Unfortunately, the old saying, “If something sounds too good to be true it probably is” applies to most of these Facebook pages.
The fake Disney page will ask you for a “like and a share” in exchange for being entered into a contest to “win” a Disney vacation. Seems like a great prize to win, right? However, no one ever wins these prizes. They are a scam and a way to get your information. In addition, the family-friendly, Disney-themed page that you “like” might turn into a not-so-friendly, very un-Disney themed page in the future.
Because Disney does sometime run special giveaways, you might be wondering, “How do I know what is a scam and what isn’t.” All of these fake pages look almost identical to an official Disney page. However, there are also slight differences. Some things to look for are variations on spellings of names and the page not being verified by Facebook.
Here is an example of a fake Disney Cruise Line Facebook page and the official, Facebook verified Disney Cruise Line page. Can you spot the fake?
If you guessed that the first photo is the fake Disney Cruise Line Facebook page, you are correct! The first one is not Disney Cruise Line but Disney Cruise LineS. Also, you will see the blue check mark on the left side of the second picture next to Disney Cruise Line indicating it has been verified Facebook of an official page.
Let’s look at another example of a fake Disney Facebook page. This is a fake page for Walt Disney World.
You can tell that this is not an official Disney page because of the hyphen between Disney and World. The official Walt Disney World Facebook page looks like this:
Don’t get me wrong, most of these “fake” pages look just like the real thing. Many of then probably have thousands of “likes” too. But don’t be fooled, these are just scams to get your information and make you follow a very un-family friendly topic in the future. I am sure Disney would love to give away 20 free cruises and 30 free Walt Disney World Vacations, however, they are a business trying to make a profit too!
With that being said, Disney does offer a free trip from time to time. Right now there is a current promotion running to win a FREE trip to Disney including a night in Cinderella’s Castle Suite. To enter that contest, click here. Chip & Co. will always be one of the first to let you know about any official Disney trip contests so you can have a chance of winning the prize and not being scammed! Any of the giveaways that we promote or offer on our page are always legit.
