Officials Confirm Guest Death at Bay Lake Tower Was a Suicide

Authorities have confirmed that the recent death at Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort was ruled a suicide, marking the third fatality (and second suicide) at Walt Disney World this month and the second occurring at the Contemporary Resort property.

According to the Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office, the guest has been identified as 28-year-old Matthew Cohn. In a statement provided to The New York Post, officials confirmed that “the manner of death was ruled suicide; cause of death: multiple traumatic injuries.”

Emergency personnel responded to the scene at Bay Lake Tower on Thursday, October 23, after reports of an incident outside the resort. Witnesses described a large response involving multiple police cruisers as well as myriad Fire and EMS vehicles. Cast Members temporarily closed select entrances to the tower while teams worked, and guests were reportedly asked not to look from their balconies. Temporary barriers, including towel carts and scaffolding, were used to help shield the area from public view.

All emergency vehicles had cleared by approximately 1 p.m., and details were not immediately released. Initial reports suggested a possible medical emergency before officials confirmed the cause of death in the days following.
