Bambi II Blu-ray and DVD Combo Pack Review

In Disney’s Bambi II, join Bambi (Alexander Gould) as he is reunited with his father the Great Prince (Patrick Stewart) who must raise the young fawn and teach him the ways of the forest. Proud and distant at first, the Great Prince finds that there is much he can learn from his son. All of the lovable characters from the original film, Thumper, Flower, and Owl, return as well as some new friends.

I sat down to watch this movie with a bias that I was probably not going to enjoy it. I was pleasantly surprised when I began to enjoy it. I loved the father son story. As the Great Prince begins teaching Bambi how a Prince should act, he starts to get to know his son and sees that there are a few things that he could learn from his son. Thumper and Flower are there for comic relief and I am sure they will be your children’s favorites. Overall I think it is a cute film that you can enjoy with your family. My criticism is that they advertise that the animation is in the “breathtaking” style of the original classic. While I can see the similarities in the animation, this film doesn’t come close to the beauty of the original.

The Blu Ray combo pack has two new bonus features. In Friend Owl’s Forest Fun Games you follow Owl through the forest and help some of his friends. I think it would be a great game for small children but might be too easy for older kids. There is also a deleted song, “Sing the Day”, that was intended to be in the original film. They place it back into the film and show the storyboards where the film was shortened. Honestly, I’m glad it wasn’t included in the movie.

  1. my brand new 3 year loves Bambi but the original movie has scenes that are a bit *ahem* intense for her so we end up skipping a lot of it. We asked for Bambi II for her birthday and it already one of her favorites. I agree that it isn’t as beautiful as the first but is much better suited for her. I am glad that I can put it on and not have to be so vigilant in skipping the scenes. The one “scary” part with the dogs may be intense for some kids but she seems alright with it :))
