The animal care team at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is celebrating the two month birthday of a white rhino with a name update. Meet baby Mylo, who was born on September 8th!
Mylo now weighs 288 lbs — he’s gained over 100 lbs in just one month! He’s still backstage bonding with his mom and learning important rhino activities, like wallowing. He’s already quite playful and loves to cover himself in mud! We can’t wait to watch him grow and join the other rhinos on display at Disney’s Animal Kingdom!
Disney is collaborating with animal and wildlife science institutions to help save the rhinos.
The group – which includes collaborators from Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment team, The Wilds, George Mason University, the South-East Zoo Alliance for Reproduction & Conservation, The Center for Conservation and Research of Endangered Wildlife (CREW) at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, and the Animal TB Research Group from Stellenbosch University, South Africa – plans to work together to help ensure the success and sustainment of thriving rhino populations in zoos and other accredited facilities.

The Species Survival Plan, which is overseen to ensure the responsible breeding of endangered species, Disney’s Animal Kingdom rhino crash continues to grow. They have had 12 southern white rhinos born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park to date, including Mylo, the calf born just over a month ago. Another white rhino is due later this year.
