Avatar: Fire and Ash Projected to Rake in $350M+ This Weekend
As the final major blockbuster of 2025, Avatar: Fire and Ash is poised to ignite the box office with a projected global opening between $340M and $380M. All eyes are on James Cameron to see if this third installment can maintain the franchise’s legendary momentum through the holiday season.

If these projections hold, Avatar: Fire and Ash will secure the year’s second-largest debut, trailing only the massive global success of Disney’s Zootopia 2, which premiered last month. This would give the Walt Disney Company a clean sweep of the year’s top three openings, rounded out by the live-action Lilo & Stitch remake.
While the domestic numbers are strong, international estimates of $250M to $275M are slightly behind the $310M overseas launch of The Way of Water. Global audiences are already heading to theaters in markets like France, Germany, Korea, and Italy, where the film debuted today, with a highly anticipated premiere in China set for this Friday.

Current domestic presales indicate that Fire and Ash is trailing its predecessor by roughly 30%, with an expected opening closer to $90M+ compared to the $134.1M debut of The Way of Water. Beyond the financial tracking, the film is also facing a tougher critical reception; it currently holds a 71% score on Rotten Tomatoes, marking a steady decline for the franchise after the original’s 81% and the sequel’s 76%.
James Cameron returns to the director’s chair for this latest epic adventure, leading a massive ensemble cast. Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldaña reprise their iconic roles as Jake Sully and Neytiri, joined by returning stars Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, and Kate Winslet. The world of Pandora also expands with the addition of David Thewlis and Michelle Yeoh, alongside a talented supporting cast including Oona Chaplin, Cliff Curtis, Britain Dalton, Trinity Bliss, Jack Champion, and Bailey Bass.
The saga expands with the introduction of the Ash People, a fierce new clan of Pandorans that will challenge everything we know about the moon. Avatar: Fire and Ash is built for the biggest screens possible, arriving exclusively in theaters on December 19, 2025. To fully experience James Cameron’s vision, fans can catch it in premium formats including IMAX 3D, Dolby Cinema 3D, RealD 3D, 4DX, and ScreenX.
