The state of California finally released theme park reopening guidelines today. Harry Sidhu, mayor of Anaheim, took to Twitter to speak out against these new guidelines.
Sidhu emphasizes the need for a Tier 3 reopening for theme parks rather than waiting until the required Yellow “minimum” Tier.
Right now, Orange County is at a 3.2% positivity rate, but needs to get to a 2% positivity rate or less to reopen under Yellow. We may not see a potential reopening date for Disneyland or other neighboring theme parks until around November, December, or even next year.
Mayor Sidhu says these guidelines “fail working families and small businesses” and that many Anaheim businesses “will not survive another year of this.”
The city of Anaheim has been suffering since the pandemic closure. Unemployment is up to 12% and the city is looking at a $100 million budget deficit.
