ABC to Honor the Late George Segal in His Final Episode of ‘The Goldbergs’. In March 2021, Academy Award-nominated actor George Segal (aka ‘Pops’ of ABC’s The Goldberg’s) passed away due to complications from bypass surgery according to his wife Sonia. A native of Great Neck, New York, Segal was always best known as a comic actor but his most famous role was in a harrowing drama, 1966’s “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf.”

Before his passing, George filmed several episodes of the latest season of The Goldberg’s, with his final full performance set to be featured in the upcoming episode, Couple Off. According to sources at ABC, the studio will be honoring the last actor with a 45-second tribute and will be dedicating his final episode to his memory. The episode will air on ABC on Wednesday, April 7th at 8pm EST/7pm Central.

Such a great loss in losing Mr. George Segal. I will always remember him as a guest on the Johnny Carson show playing the banjo. Sympathy to his family and the Goldberg family. Always RIP George Segal.
