Ever dream of being part of a television show? Now is your chance to be a part and make some Disney Television Magic. A new multi-camera comedy production that will be both partially scripted and improvised has been greenlit by Disney for Disney Channel.
The sitcom series, called “Just Roll With It,” will be filmed in front of a studio audience. “Just Roll With It” will follow the ups and downs of the blended Bennett-Blatt family. Kaylin Hayman will lead the series as “Blair”, who is the rebel in the family. Blair’s mother “Rachel,” a stricter, military veteran, is played by Suzi Barrett. Blair and Rachel have parallel personalities which we will see showcased throughout the series. Also, the cast is Ramon Reed as “Owen”, a natural athlete who has a knack for organization and attempts to help his father “Byron”, clean up his act a bit. Byron, played by Tobie Windham, is a charismatic and creative morning radio show host.
Throughout filming, scenes will be interrupted by the sound of a horn. The cast will stop filming and head backstage as the studio audience chooses between three unexpected stunts that will take place when filming continues. After the electronic votes are cast, the cast will return to the set and the stunt with the highest vote will occur. The actors will have to react to the surprise and, you guessed it, just roll with it. The stunts can be just about anything. We could see someone drop through the roof of their home, someone having to eat insects in their food, and silly stunts done by a fellow cast member. The actors will not know which task will appear and must improvise those scenes.
Disney announced, “The multi-camera sitcom format has worked as a staple of TV for decades. So naturally, we aimed to totally upend it,” said Jonas Agin, vice president of original series for Disney Channel. “By introducing an element of audience-interactivity that subverts the expectations of not only the viewers but also the cast, ‘Just Roll With It’ is a true step in the evolution of comedic storytelling.”
“Just Roll With It” is a production of Kenwood TV Productions, Inc. Adam Small and Trevor Moore serve as executive producers and co-showrunners.
