Finally....A New Website for Disney!

If you go to Disney.com you are in for a pleasant surprise ! You will finally see what many of us have been waiting for…a newly refurbished website!! The image above is a screen shot of the new site to give you an idea of some of the new changes. The Walt Disney Company has been working on this reboot for nearly a year now within their digital division and the primary aim of the site is to deliver a robust entertainment experience.

James Pitaro, Disney Interactive co-President, came to the Walt Disney Company from Yahoo in 2010 to help with the main focus Disney has moved to with the new site and delivery to multiple devices, including tablets and smartphones. Pitaro refers to the shift as the “digital gateway to Disney” and sites that the new change is not without risk.

Pitaro said, “The new Disney.com is a much cleaner and more elegant site and a significant change from the legacy site, and any time you make material changes to a Web experience that has a large audience, you have potential to unsettle some users…That said, we take a lot of pride in the new entertainment experience we’ve created and are confident that the multi-platform site will both further engage our current Guests and bring in new ones.”

Many changes have been improvements to the old site, such as load time with has drastically improved and a minimalist design that is meant to put guests first. The site now gets much more fresh content from many Disney units, including Marvel and Pixar, though ABC and ESPN divisions are not currently part of the new site.

  1. I too am a semi-web developer and I am excited about the change. Gone are the days of flashy websites that have a million things going on. I love the simplicity of the new site. It is very pleasing to the eye, clean and modern.

  2. not a huge fan of the change…since dd, loves playing the games on disney junior, we had to search to find that part of the site. Not a huge deal though..just a surprise to see a change.

  3. Although we are Disney lovers (with almost 70 trips to WDW for my 16yo daughter), we’re not big Disney Channel watchers. I was extremely disappointed I had to scroll to the bottom of the screen to get park information. My hubby is a web developer – they should have hired him to do it. It’s boring and I don’t like it at all. I really wasn’t crazy about what this replaced either, but this could have and should have been so much better. Two thumbs down for this new site. Change things up and put the parks first!!!

  4. With all they do, the resources they have access to and all the time they worked on it-this is what they come up with. Very, disappointed. My son just looked at it and said “I could have done that…no, no, I could have done better”. Disney is all about sparkle, fun, excitement, dreams. This is boring, plain, drab. Nothing about the page says “Come, spend time and let us Make Your Dreams Come True.”.
