Top 10 Pet Peeves at Walt Disney World

Top 10 Pet Peeves at Walt Disney World

Let’s face it, Disney is a crowded place, and according to Chip it is becoming even more crowded. With so many people passing through the gates of the four parks and two water parks, there are bound to be some who annoy others. In order to keep from being “that person”, I want to share with you my Top Ten Pet Peeves that can make your vacation less than magical.

10. Parade Jumpers – Walking in front of someone, who clearly has the front spot behind the parade ropes, to park yourself for the parade. Chances are, that person has been waiting there for at least an hour. Also if you are an adult and there is a kid sitting there use some common sense you make a better door than you do a window.

9. Traffic Stoppers – Stopping in the middle of a main walkway, without pulling over to the side to pull out your map or take a picture. When the park first opens there is that mad rush to get inside and to the rides. While I know everyone is excited be respectful and pull over out of the flow of traffic to handle your business.

8. Personal Space Violators – Walking too closely behind someone, or standing too close behind them in line is annoying. If I wanted you all over me I would have married you..

7. Line Holders – Sending other members of your party to wait in line for an attraction, and then line jumping to catch up with them. Nothing worse than knowing you are three people away from being next, then the rest of their family (like 6 more people) cut in front of you. Parents with Children are fine I am talking more large parties of people. Brazilian tour groups are notorious for this.

6. Loud Talkers – Screaming at or yelling at your children instead of pulling them aside and talking to them. Or people on Cell Phones talking at full volume. We don’t want to hear about Aunt Bootsies infected toe.

Pirates of the Caribbean Barbosa Wicked Wench

5. Ninja Photographers – Flash photography on dark rides. This totally ruins the moment for everyone. Not to mention your picture is going to look horrible. There are some things you weren’t meant to see on the dark rides.

4. High Towers – Putting your kids on your shoulder to watch something, ruining the view for the tons of people behind you.

3. Night Lighters – Holding your iPad, iPhone or Cell Phone above your head to take video of fireworks or parades. This ruins it for others around you, especially if it’s dark and the light from the device is intrusive. This isn’t a concert people.

2. Bag Slackers – Not having your bag ready to be checked when you arrive at the gates. You can see the long line of people opening up their bags and getting ready. Disney checks every pocket and every bag so unzip everything before you get up there, so be prepared.

1. No Manner-itis – People who are just rude and forget to say please and thank you. A little kindness and manners will go a long way with not only cast members but from other people too. Just because your on vacation it doesn’t mean you don’t have to be polite and respectful to others.

It comes down to this. Brush up on your manners before entering a crowded place like Walt Disney World. Remember that others are there for their vacation as well. If you want the whole park to yourself, perhaps you could rent it out privately 🙂 Everyone around you has paid for their vacation, too. You don’t want someone ruining it for you, and you don’t want to be THAT person who commits one of the Top Ten Pet Peeves at Walt Disney World.

Magically Yours,
Carrie

  1. I agree with all of these, but the one that happened to us was “Parade Jumpers”, only it was fire works at Disneyland. Our family of 4 had been sitting in the middle of Main Street, right in front of the Castle for an hour. Right before the show, they asked everyone to stand up. We were very comfortable, and had enough room to move around without being shoulder to shoulder. Then they came, the “Parade Jumpers”. This one man and his family moved right into the area we were standing in, standing in front of us, and even seperating my DS(9) from the rest of us. I was furious and asked if he would move, explaining that we had been sitting here for an hour in order to get these good seats. He refused to move, until I told him that he had seperated our son from our party. He finally moved in behind us. Boy, was my blood boiling.

  2. We saw this happen in EPCOT one day. A young child was just crying and crying and mom looked at him and yelled, “Why are you crying.” My thought was, because the kid is hot, exhausted, and your yelling at him. Poor guy.

  3. @b80f188624566eceacd1e417d5ba7fd9:disqus , I completely agree. It actually cracks me up to hear folks gripe about kids. Years ago out here when they opened Toontown here at Disneyland, my brother in law actually griped about how many strollers there were in the area. Imagine that strollers in toontown, geesh..

  4. #1 & 10 are the worst for me (closely followed by the south american groups). As a local passholder (and husband of a die hard photo-mom) we are trained to pause for someone else picture and we try to help out if we see that a group is trying to get a picture, we’ll offer to take it for them. Some of the best times I’ve gotten at the parks are when my little guy(4) tries to be a good host and help people out – he’s already got lots of tips that he’s more than willing to share with everyone.

  5. I agree with you and I thought we’d be guilty of that ourselves but our kids were the ones to run us down! It was their first trip to Disney in February, ages 18m and 5. They wanted to go to the park when it opened and refused to leave until closing time. Proud to say we didn’t have any fights or tantrums. They did crash pretty hard on day 5 and were both ready for a nice nap on the drive home but overall, I was very proud of them. Heading back in December – hoping they don’t wear us down too much again! haha

  6. Oh wow I had forgotten about the line jumpers that were a Brazilian youth soccer team that actually got in a dispute with the person in line they were trying to cut in front of and of all things they spoke Portugesse as well. Not sure what I heard

  7. People who complain about kids in their field of vision, and kids in strollers, and kids basically being in the park. I know that lots of adults love Disney. But when you start complaining about little people being in the park…I think you have really missed the point:)

  8. Parental melt downs. You’ve seen this one. The parents are determined to get their money’s worth and push the kids to go go go for days on end until one day, the kids have just had it and aren’t being little angels any more but rather crabby monsters. And the parents decide that the way to deal with this is not to give the kids a break and go back to the room for R & R, but rather to yell and scream at the kids. Why? Because the parents needed a break too. I’ve only been three times but I’ve seen it each trip. A tired and worn out family that is no longer having fun but just pushing through and getting things accomplished for the sake of the checklist is a parental meltdown in the making.
