This article comes to us from the Examiner:
Fess Parker, who became “the” Davy Crockett to many from his appearances on the Disney TV show died of natural causes at age 85. As Davy Crockett, Parker became a cultural icon for millions of kids who bought and wore Coonskin Hats and all the Davy Crockett paraphernalia. The show was so popular that the theme song was a number one hit in 1955.
Parker went on to star in several movies including “Ol’ Yeller” and as TV’s Daniel Boone. In 1970, he retired from acting and launched a second career as a real estate developer and grower of grapes for wine along California’s central coast.
May we all recall the joy that such cultural icons brought us in childhood, and may these people continue to bring joy to all children.
