Captain EO dances his way to DisneyWorld Florida…
Back in the 80’s that was a true statement, Michael Jackson danced his way into our hearts and minds with a little help from George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola. Starting out in Disneyland and eventually making his way to Disneyworld and the rest of the Disney Universe. Here is the breakdown of Captain EO performances at the various Disney Parks:
Epcot
Opening date September 12, 1986
Closing date July 6, 1994
Disneyland
Opening date September 18, 1986
Closing date April 7, 1997
Reopening date February 23, 2010
Tokyo Disneyland
Opening date March 20, 1987
Closing date September 1, 1996
Disneyland Park (Paris)
Opening date April 12, 1992
Closing date August 17, 1998
Today on Febuary 23rd 2010 Michael Jackson will be dancing his was back to Disneyland California. After a 13-year absence, the 17-minute film, “Captain EO,” starring Michael Jackson returns!
One question remains…
When are we going to see Michael at Walt Disney World in Florida?
I was just at DisneyWorld and no offense to Disney or any of the cast of Honey I shrunk the Kids but you can tell that that show is starting to get very old. Even the 15 minute commercial from Kodak is old. Don’t even get me started on that..
Hopefully Disney is going to see huge numbers at the Captain EO show in Disneyland and decide to ditch “Honey” in Florida and follow suit.
No matter where you look today on the various blogs, news, or social websites there is talk of one thing Michael Jackson. He touched a generation with his music, with his dancing, and with his love. Having seen the show only one time when I was little but having rewatched the videos online I would love to take my little one to see a performance of a great man.

I will love too see Captain EO back to Disneyland in Florida.
I don't think it's a different crowd at all. Kids at heart, you know, and..well…actual kids.
trip – you don't think its a totally different crowd coming for Harry Potter and Disney?
Disney knows that Harry Potter this year really is a win for WDW. Universal will bring the crowds to Orlando and while they are there, they will most definately visit WDW.
That is exactly the case for my family travelling from Colorado. We are flying our for 3 days at Universal specifically because of HP, but while we are there we will be spending 4 days at Disney.
haha yeah way back when there wasnt really much for kids to do in Epcot
When I was a kid the only way my parents were able to get my brother and I to even think about going to EPCOT was promising that we could go watch Captain EO. I love that show. It's so much better than Honey I Shrunk the Kids. They really need to go and bring that back so the new generation can see just how great it is.
Grumpyfan – I agree especially with all the refurbishments going on right now I dont see why they couldnt. I am afraid to admit it but I think Harry Potter is going to put a big dent in their revenue..I know the wife and I are planning on taking a weekend just to drive down and check out HP.
Heather – Sorry..maybe a Disney rep will read this and see the over whelming interest and not wait till the last minute
I'm guessing they're going to watch and see what happens in California. Also, if Universal draws big crowds away with the opening of Harry Potter, they might place a rush order for EO at WDW. I'm almost surprised they didn't do it anyway just out of fear, since they don't really have any new attractions opening this year. Is it arrogance, or are they just playing nice and letting Universal have this year since the next few years WDW will have big openings of their own?
You got me all excited that you had the inside scoop. 🙂 Like you said, I hope they realize how well it is going to go at Disneyland and bring it back to WDW, even if it's for a limited engagement.
