Brightline Files for Chapter 11 Restructuring, Orlando Train Service Continues as Normal
Brightline is restructuring its finances through Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, but travelers using the popular rail service between South Florida and Orlando should not see any changes to their trips.

The company announced on September 25 that certain Brightline parent entities will file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in New Jersey as part of a Restructuring Support Agreement with major stakeholders. Importantly for travelers, Brightline Trains Florida LLC, the company that actually operates Brightline’s passenger rail service between Miami and Orlando International Airport, is not included in the bankruptcy filing. Trains will continue operating under the same management and riders can continue booking trips as usual.
As part of the restructuring, stakeholders have committed $490 million in new financing for Brightline Trains Florida LLC, including $140 million in additional senior debt and $350 million in new junior debt. The additional funding is intended to support the restructuring and provide the company with more financial flexibility. Several bonds connected to Brightline and its future expansion projects also remain in place.
Despite the financial restructuring, Brightline says its Florida passenger business continues to grow. Through August 2026, year-to-date ridership increased 14% compared with the same period in 2025, while revenue climbed 17%. The company also says it plans to continue pursuing future growth, including additional stations along the existing corridor, a proposed Cocoa station, commuter rail service in South Florida, and the long-discussed extension from Orlando toward Tampa.
