Disney Legend Lea Salonga Earns Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame
History has been made on Hollywood Boulevard! Multi-award-winning performer and beloved Disney Legend Lea Salonga was officially honored with the 2,855th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, marking a monumental achievement as the first Filipina artist to receive the iconic star.
The dedication ceremony took place directly in front of the historic Pantages Theatre in Hollywood, recognizing Salonga in the category of Live Performance.
To Disney fans around the globe, Salonga’s enchanting voice defined a generation of Disney Royalty. She famously provided the singing voices for two official Disney Princesses: Princess Jasmine in Aladdin (1992) and Fa Mulan in Mulan (1998) and Mulan II. For her legendary contributions to the Walt Disney Company, she was inducted as an official Disney Legend in 2011.
During the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, fellow Disney star and Walk of Famer Ming-Na Wen—who provided the speaking voice for Mulan—joined as a guest speaker to celebrate her longtime collaborator and friend.
Beyond her classic Disney roles, Salonga’s 45-year career spans global acclaim across stage and screen:
- Broadway Pioneer: Won a Tony Award for her breakthrough starring role as Kim in Miss Saigon, and became the first Asian actress to play Éponine and Fantine in Les Misérables on Broadway.
- Stage & Screen: Starred in Broadway productions including Once on This Island, Flower Drum Song, and Old Friends alongside Bernadette Peters, as well as screen roles in Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin and KPop Demon Hunters.
Nominated by the Manila International Film Festival (MIFF) to the Walk of Fame Committee, Salonga’s star placement serves as a landmark moment for representation in the entertainment industry.
