Oaxacan Wood Carving Shop Quietly Removed from Mexico Pavilion
Big changes have officially taken effect inside the Mexico Pavilion at EPCOT. Following its permanent closure on August 31, the longtime Oaxacan wood carving shop has been completely cleared out, and the adjacent Kidcot Fun Stop has been dismantled and roped off.
Located inside the Plaza de los Amigos marketplace, the Oaxacan wood carving stand was known for offering authentic, hand-carved animal figures (alebrijes) crafted from timber in Mexico’s Oaxacan Valley. In its final days, cast members offered 50% off remaining inventory before closing up shop. As of September 1, all display cases and merchandise are gone, leaving behind an open area with only a lamppost and a barrel.
In addition to the shop’s closure, the neighboring Kidcot Fun Stop has been taken down. The area where young guests could collect stamps and activity cards for their World Showcase “passports” is now blocked off with velvet ropes.
Disney has not yet announced a new location or replacement for the Mexico Kidcot stop, leaving an active gap in the interactive scavenger hunt.
Disney has not shared official plans regarding what will replace the former wood carving footprint or if the Kidcot stop will return in a new location inside the pavilion.
