Spider-Noir Canceled After One Season Despite Strong Reviews and Emmy Nominations
Amazon has pulled the plug on Spider-Noir after just one season, bringing Nicolas Cage’s live-action turn as the noir-inspired Marvel hero to an unexpectedly early end.

The Prime Video series premiered May 27, 2026 and starred Cage as Ben Reilly, a private investigator in 1930s New York whose former life as the city’s only superhero, The Spider, comes crashing back into focus. The series leaned hard into its pulp-noir style, even offering episodes in both color and black-and-white.
What makes the cancellation especially surprising is how well Spider-Noir was received. The series earned a 92% critics score and a 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, along with 11 Emmy nominations, the most of any Prime Video series in 2026. Despite that strong response, Amazon has decided not to move forward with a second season.
Spider-Noir also marked a major moment for Cage, who previously voiced Spider-Man Noir in 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The live-action series gave him his first regular television role after more than four decades primarily spent on the big screen.

The character first appeared in Marvel Comics in 2009 as part of the Marvel Noir universe, offering a darker alternate take on Spider-Man set during the Great Depression. While Spider-Noir will not continue on Prime Video, Cage’s take on the character certainly managed to make an impression during its brief run.
