Magic Kingdom Files New Permit for Haunted Mansion

Just as Disney finished up months of extensive exterior refurbishment work at Magic Kingdom’s The Haunted Mansion, another Notice of Commencement has popped up in local public records.

If you were hoping the 999 Happy Haunts were finally done hosting construction crews, it looks like there might still be more work brewing in Liberty Square.

According to official records, Walt Disney World filed the new permit for 1600 Magic Kingdom Dr., which is the official address for the Haunted Mansion attraction.

What makes this filing particularly interesting is who filed it and when:

1. Facility Asset Management vs. Imagineering: The permit was submitted via Disney’s Facility Asset Management (FAM) rather than Walt Disney Imagineering. FAM typically oversees routine operational updates, general maintenance, and facility repairs rather than major story or ride re-themes.
2. MLC Theming as Contractor: Disney has tapped MLC Theming for the job—the same contractor listed on a similar Notice of Commencement back in early 2025. MLC Theming specializes in themed construction, scenic painting, and exterior detailing.
3. Fresh Off an Exterior Refurbishment: The timing comes right after the attraction spent months hidden behind scaffolding and scrims while crews refreshed the brickwork, facade, and queue details.

This permit could simply cover final punch-list items and exterior touch-ups following the major refurbishment. Alternatively, it could involve infrastructure or maintenance work tucked inside or outside the mansion.

For now, Disney hasn’t announced any planned ride closures or major operational disruptions tied to this permit. The Haunted Mansion remains open to foolish mortals at Magic Kingdom.
