Universal Orlando Resort is cleaning things up with a little help from the Florida sunshine. New solar-powered trash cans and recycling bins have started appearing around Universal CityWalk, bringing built-in compacting technology to some of the busiest walkways connecting the theme parks.
The new bins feature solar panels on top that power internal compactors, allowing them to hold more waste before they need to be emptied. Guests can open them by hand or use a foot pedal, giving everyone a hands-free option after carrying snacks, drinks and park-day essentials around CityWalk. Photos of the new bins were shared on X by bioreconstruct.
Most of the new units have been spotted along the bridges leading toward Universal Studios Florida and Universal Islands of Adventure. They have also received a CityWalk makeover, with purple decals, neon-style artwork and the familiar CityWalk logo helping them blend into the entertainment district.

Disney began installing similar solar-powered bins at Walt Disney World earlier this summer, and now Universal is getting in on the compacting action too.
