Disney World Releases How-To Video for New Solar-Powered Trash Cans
Disney World is taking out the trash and clearing up a little can-fusion along the way. As new solar-powered trash cans continue appearing across Walt Disney World Resort, Disney has released an instructional video showing guests exactly how the high-tech bins are meant to be used.

The video demonstrates two ways to open the trash chute. Guests can step on the foot pedal for a hands-free option or manually lift the front flap. The solar-powered cans also compact garbage inside, allowing them to hold more waste than traditional Disney trash cans before they need to be emptied.
The tutorial follows several weeks of guests struggling to figure out the new design. Some visitors have placed food wrappers and other trash inside the recessed handles instead of opening the chute. The versions near Tiana’s Bayou Adventure feature large metal handles that make the opening more obvious, while cans spotted at EPCOT and Disney’s Animal Kingdom do not have the same handles.
The new bins have also raised accessibility questions. Some wheelchair users and guests with mobility limitations may not be able to operate the foot pedal, while the taller design and elevated flap could make the manual option difficult to reach or grip. Younger guests may run into similar challenges. The rounded tops also remove one of the unofficial perks of Disney’s classic flat-topped trash cans, which guests have long used as makeshift tables during EPCOT festivals.
