Indiana Jones Attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Unearths New Construction Permit

Work on the upcoming Indiana Jones attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is moving forward with a new permit filed by Walt Disney Imagineering. The Notice of Commencement covers general construction, building infrastructure, and system enhancements at the current DINOSAUR attraction building, with Balfour Beatty listed as the contractor.

The company has also worked on other major Disney projects, including Piston Peak National Park and the former Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser building. The permit likely focuses on updates to the building and its supporting infrastructure rather than changes to the ride system itself. DINOSAUR is being transformed into a new Indiana Jones adventure as part of Tropical Americas, which will replace DinoLand U.S.A. The existing attraction already uses the same general ride system and a similar track layout as Indiana Jones Adventure at Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, but Disney has confirmed that the Animal Kingdom version will feature an original story created specifically for Walt Disney World.

Earlier permits covered set installation work, and construction is already underway on the large Maya temple facade rising in front of the attraction building. Disney has teased that the new adventure will send Indiana Jones into a recently discovered Maya temple in search of a legendary creature. The Indiana Jones attraction and the rest of Tropical Americas are scheduled to open in 2027.
