Disney Extends Indiana Jones Permit by One Year
Adventure has a deadline, but it looks like Indiana Jones is taking just a little bit longer to pack his bags for Walt Disney World!
Walt Disney Imagineering has officially filed a one-year extension on a major construction permit for the highly anticipated Indiana Jones attraction coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

The original Notice of Commencement was filed back in August 2025 to pave the way for the transformation of DinoLand U.S.A. Like most standard construction permits in Florida, it carried a default one-year expiration date.
The newly filed extension pushes that timeline out by a full year, meaning the permit is now active until July 2027. The paperwork lists Mecca Productions, Inc. as the contracted partner tasked with installing the attraction’s massive new set elements.
While a permit extension can sometimes trigger panic among fans worried about project delays, there is no need to worry just yet! This move is standard practice for theme park projects of this scale. Disney has previously announced that the new Tropical Americas land—including the Indiana Jones ride—is slated to debut sometime in 2027, and this extension lines up with that projection.

For those tracking the construction, the incoming Indiana Jones ride is taking over the building that housed the classic attraction DINOSAUR.
Because DINOSAUR originally utilized the exact same track layout and vehicle ride system as Indiana Jones Adventure at Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, Imagineers have a fantastic structural foundation to build upon. However, don’t expect a simple clone of the West Coast version. Walt Disney World’s iteration will feature a completely unique storyline.
Guests will join Indy as he braves the deep interior of a newly discovered Maya temple, investigating rumors of a mysterious, mythical creature hiding within its ancient walls.
Over in the rest of the Tropical Americas land, work continues to progress rapidly. While Indy’s temple utilizes an existing structure, the neighboring Encanto-themed attraction is currently being built completely from scratch, with its own steel construction permits already moving forward.
With a 2027 opening window still on the horizon, pushing the set installation permits into mid-2027 ensures the construction crews have all the legal runway they need to make this temple look as breathtaking and detailed as possible.
