Walt Disney Family Museum Announces ‘Foley for Animation’ Event
Go behind the microphone with award-winning Skywalker Sound Foley Artist Shelley Roden at the Walt Disney Family Museum!
With a legendary career spanning more than 200 films, television shows, and games, Roden will share her insider expertise on the art of creating everyday sound effects—known as “foley.” Attendees will also get to participate in an interactive audience demonstration, learning firsthand how to bring an animated scene to life through the magic of sound.
Based in Northern California, Shelley Roden is an award-winning foley artist at Skywalker Sound with an impressive portfolio spanning over 200 live-action movies, animated films, television series, and video games. Her incredible list of recent projects includes Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5 and Hoppers, 20th Century Studios’ Avatar: Fire and Ash, Marvel’s episodic series Wonder Man, and Lucasfilm’s Andor.
Passionate about mentoring the next generation of sound creators, Roden regularly hosts interactive workshops for students and the public. She has brought her expertise to institutions worldwide, including the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), Drexel University, Ithaca College, and Denmark’s Sonic College. She also makes annual visits to the Strong Museum of Play in her hometown of Rochester, New York, and Virginia Commonwealth University, where she serves as an affiliate faculty member in the Department of Kinetic Imaging. Currently, she is channeling her decades of industry insight into a new book featuring exclusive interviews with her fellow foley artist colleagues.
