How Disney Cast Members and VoluntEARS Protect Local Habitats
As part of the ongoing Earth Month celebrations, Disney is shining a light on the essential role pollinators play in our global ecosystem. From buzzing bees to migrating butterflies, these “tiny heroes” are receiving extra support through the Disney Planet Possible commitment. This initiative brings together Imagineers, scientists, and Cast Members to create a healthier planet for both people and wildlife.

A Global Tour of Disney Pollinator Programs
The effort to protect these species spans the entire globe, with unique programs tailored to local environments. In California, students from the Desert Defender Career Exploration Camp recently collaborated with Cotino, the first Storyliving by Disney community, to plant 17 “pollinator pods” filled with native seeds. These efforts help support the delicate desert ecosystem of the Coachella Valley.

Over at Disneyland Paris, the resort has maintained its own apiaries since 2012. Today, there are 40 beehives and five acres of wildflower meadows providing a safe haven for local bees. Similarly, the Napa Rose restaurant at Disneyland Resort now sources its honey from local Southern California beekeepers, highlighting the connection between healthy pollinators and seasonal cuisine.

Leading the Way in Butterfly Conservation
Walt Disney World remains a hub for pollinator research, with the Disney Conservation team monitoring butterfly and bee populations for over 20 years. By adding more than 14 acres of wildflower meadows around solar arrays and tagging monarch butterflies to track their migration, Disney is providing vital data to the scientific community.

The Disney Conservation Fund has also been instrumental in reversing the decline of at-risk species. Through partnerships with the University of Florida, Disney has helped the critically endangered Schaus’ swallowtail butterfly population grow from just four individuals in 2012 to over 1,700 by 2021.

How You Can Help This Earth Month
Disney is also encouraging fans to take action in their own backyards. Disney VoluntEARS have provided over 7,000 hours of service planting pollinator-friendly gardens to help monarch populations recover following the 2025 Los Angeles fires. By planting native milkweed and flowering plants at home, anyone can help provide the nectar resources these species need to thrive.
As we count down the final 30 days to the 30th anniversary of the Disney Conservation Fund, these stories serve as a reminder that even the smallest creatures can have a massive impact on the health of our world.
