Severe Weather Update for Walt Disney World as High Wind and Rain Move into Central Florida
Hold onto your Mickey ears if you are heading into the parks today. A significant weather system is moving through Central Florida, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a formal Wind Advisory for the entire Walt Disney World Resort area.
Wind Advisory Details The advisory officially goes into effect at 11:00 AM today, April 7, 2026, and is currently scheduled to last through midnight tonight. Forecasters are calling for sustained northeast winds of 15 to 25 mph, but the real concern for park-goers will be the powerful gusts, which are expected to reach up to 45 mph.

The advisory covers the following counties:
- Orange County (Home to Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and Disney Springs)
- Osceola County (Home to Disney’s Animal Kingdom and several resort hotels)
- Seminole and Lake Counties
This wind event is part of a larger weather disturbance that will linger over Central Florida through midweek. While coastal areas are under a Flood Watch, the interior Disney World region is bracing for 1 to 3 inches of rainfall between today and Thursday. Guests should prepare for multiple rounds of heavy showers and potential thunderstorms as a second disturbance moves through the area tomorrow.

While Walt Disney World has not yet announced any official closures or changes to operating hours, high winds of this magnitude often result in temporary adjustments to outdoor offerings. If you are in the parks today, keep an eye on the My Disney Experience app for updates regarding:
- Transportation: The Disney Skyliner and friendship boats are frequently suspended when sustained winds or gusts exceed safety thresholds.
- Outdoor Entertainment: High-altitude fireworks, outdoor stage shows, and afternoon parades like “Festival of Fantasy” may be modified or canceled for the safety of the performers and guests.
- Attractions: High-profile outdoor attractions with elevated tracks, such as Expedition Everest or Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, may experience temporary downtime during the strongest gusts.

The stormy weather is expected to persist through Thursday before the system finally pushes out of the region. The good news for those visiting later this week is that conditions will improve significantly just in time for the weekend. By Sunday, the rain should be gone, replaced by clear skies and pleasant temperatures in the upper 70s and low 80s.
If you are heading out today, it is highly recommended to pack a sturdy poncho and ensure any loose items—like hats or strollers covers—are properly secured!
