The Crimson Dawn Rises: ‘Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord’ Premiering This April
The shadows of the underworld are deepening. Lucasfilm Animation has officially unveiled its next high-stakes animated series, “Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord,” which is set to slash its way onto Disney+ on April 6, 2026.
This pulse-pounding adventure follows a specialized release schedule: two episodes will premiere each week, building momentum toward a massive two-part finale on the ultimate fan holiday—May the 4th.

A New Chapter in the Underworld
Set in the era following the dramatic events of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the series finds Maul plotting to rebuild his criminal empire on a planet untouched by the reach of the new Galactic Empire.
The story takes a dark and compelling turn when the former Sith Lord crosses paths with Devon Izara, a disillusioned young Jedi Padawan. In her, Maul sees more than just a stray survivor; he sees a potential apprentice who could be the key to his relentless pursuit of revenge.

The Creative Force Behind the Series
The series is a homecoming for the architects of modern Star Wars animation. It is created by Dave Filoni and developed alongside Matt Michnovetz, with Brad Rau serving as supervising director.
Expect a “pulpy,” edgier animation style that leans into the gritty atmosphere of the galactic underworld. The executive production team features a “who’s who” of Lucasfilm talent, including Carrie Beck and Athena Yvette Portillo, ensuring the series stays true to the lore established by George Lucas.
An Elite Voice Cast
The series brings together a mix of returning legends and exciting newcomers to bring this dark corner of the galaxy to life:
- Sam Witwer returns as the iconic Maul, bringing the same intensity that has defined the character for over a decade.
- Gideon Adlon joins the galaxy as the Padawan Devon Izara.
- Wagner Moura (of Narcos fame) voices Brander Lawson, appearing alongside Charlie Bushnell as Rylee Lawson.
- Richard Ayoade lends his unique voice to Two-Boots, while Dennis Haysbert portrays Master Eeko-Dio-Daki.
- Vanessa Marshall reprises her role as the loyal Mandalorian Rook Kast, and fans will also recognize A.J. LoCascio as Marrok and Steve Blum as Icarus.
