Oga’s Cantina Closes to Prepare for New Star Wars Eras
Starting Tuesday, January 20, Oga’s Cantina at Disneyland will close its doors for a six-week refurbishment. This temporary closure is part of a major overhaul to align the venue with the upcoming Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge timeline shift, which will soon allow the land to feature characters and stories from the Original Trilogy era.

While a precise reopening date is still under wraps, Oga’s Cantina is expected to remain shuttered for refurbishment until early March. This closure paves the way for a groundbreaking dual-timeline expansion at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, where the land will be split: one half remaining in the sequel era and the other shifting back to the days of the original trilogy.
This historic update will subtly refine the backstory of the cantina to fit both eras. Fans can rest easy, however, knowing that Oga Garra remains the fierce proprietor in charge, and DJ R-3X will continue to spin his galactic beats at the booth.

Fans of the original 1977 film have a major reason to celebrate: the iconic “Cantina Band” theme from Star Wars: A New Hope is officially being added to the bar’s musical rotation. Beyond the playlist, Disney has teased broader aesthetic changes throughout Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to reflect the new era, which may include visual refreshes within the Cantina itself.
While the “Original Trilogy” updates take center stage, Disney will also utilize the six-week closure to perform essential maintenance and standard upkeep on the high-traffic venue.
