Aerial View: See the Progress on CarsLand Construction
The transformation of the Rivers of America into a Cars-themed area at Magic Kingdom is a massive undertaking at Walt Disney World. Fortunately, the progress can be clearly tracked thanks to Bioreconstruct, who routinely captures key aerial views. New photos, taken from a helicopter soaring more than 3,100 feet above the site, offer the latest visual update on the significant demolition work underway.

The new Cars-themed land will occupy a massive area stretching from the exit of Big Thunder Mountain Railroadeastward to the entrance of Haunted Mansion. This straight east-to-west line is crucial, as it will serve to divide the new area into two distinct sections: Piston Peak National Park to the south and Villains Land to the north.

Significant demolition has been completed, including the removal of the Tom Sawyer Island boat launch and adjacent walkways near the exit of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. The closure of Big Thunder, which began in January and will last through the end of the year, is directly related to this massive project. During this extended downtime, the entire track has been replaced, and Disney is currently working on adding “new magic” to the attraction before its anticipated reopening sometime in 2026.
