The worlds of the Grid are set to collide with reality in a major new update to Disney’s TRON attractions. The overlay will immerse riders in a new version of the high-speed race, replacing the familiar blue and orange hues of the original Grid with twisting tunnels of vibrant red and orange light. This visual transformation aims to heighten the sense of adrenaline and speed as guests compete in a dazzling Lightcycle race that bends the reality of the video game world.

Adding to the experience, the ride’s energy will be driven by the industrial sounds of Nine Inch Nails, whose music for the new film will push the experience into a fully immersive symphony of light, speed, and sound. The new Tron: Ares ride overlay is set to begin at Magic Kingdom on September 15 and at Shanghai Disneyland on September 16.

Nine Inch Nails Enters the Grid

As previously announced, the industrial rock band, Nine Inch Nails, is adding its signature sound to the Tron universe. The band’s composers, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, previously scored scenes in the 2020 Disney/Pixar animated film, Soul.

With Tron: Ares exploring the crossing of the Grid into the real world, Nine Inch Nails is incorporating pulsating synths, distorted textures, and haunting melodies to rewire the universe’s soundscape. A first track from the film, “As Alive as You Need Me to Be,” has already been released, providing fans with a preview of the music that will accompany the new ride experience.
