At the Table With Disney Lorcana, Where Princesses Heal and Powerline Rocks the Stage
On any given evening, our dining room table looks less like a place for dinner and more like a stage for Disney’s latest showdown. Between stacks of card sleeves, glittering foil heroes, and artistically perfect playmats, it has become a family ritual: opening a new Disney Lorcana starter deck, shuffling the cards, and letting the stories unfold.
With Fabled, the ninth expansion of Ravensburger’s fast-growing trading card game, that ritual is being renewed. Arriving August 29 at local game stores—and September 5 in big-box and online retailers—two new starter decks offer players an immediate entry into Lorcana’s imaginative world. Preconstructed and balanced by Team Lorcana, the decks are designed to be played straight out of the box, sparing newcomers the trial of deckbuilding and giving veterans a polished way to explore the set’s themes.

One deck looks to the Disney Princesses, combining Sapphire’s steady resource-building with Amber’s restorative healing. It’s a pairing that rewards patience: Cinderella, Ariel, Jasmine, Aurora, Rapunzel, and Mulan work together to quest steadily for Lore, all while supporting each other with cards that heal, mend, and keep them in the game. The deck’s foil stars—Mulan and Ariel—glint on the tabletop, symbols of resilience and recovery, qualities that resonate as much in family storytelling as they do in competitive play.
The second deck could not be more different. Plucked from 1995 and humming with nostalgia, A Goofy Movie takes center stage. Built from Ruby’s bold aggression and Emerald’s trickster tendencies, the deck is a road trip in miniature. Goofy, his son Max, and the electric pop idol Powerline headline a fast-moving list designed to race toward the finish line of 20 Lore. Like the film it celebrates, this deck is loud, bright, and unapologetically fun—the kind of gameplay that might leave players singing “Stand Out” around the table.
Starter decks have been a cornerstone of Lorcana since its debut two years ago, serving as both teacher and companion. Parents introducing children to trading card games often start here, while collectors appreciate the guaranteed foil inclusions. For families, they have become less about winning and more about sharing: a way to invite Disney characters into the rhythms of ordinary evenings. Our household has learned to pair them with Ravensburger’s card sleeves and deck boxes, turning what might be a fleeting game into a treasured ritual.
But Fabled offers more than just cards. For many fans, Lorcana has become as much about the collectible accessories as the decks themselves. This set’s playmats are especially striking: one captures Cinderella’s shimmering “Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo” transformation in all its starlit magic, while another features the regal “Mufasa, Ruler of Pride Rock” in enchanted artwork. These mats serve not only as functional surfaces—protecting cards from spills and scratches—but also as windows into the heart of Disney’s storytelling. We’ve collected every Lorcana playmat since The First Chapter, and watching them rotate across our table feels like flipping through a living art gallery.

The same holds true for deck boxes and card sleeves, which have become indispensable parts of our collection. Each new expansion pairs its starter decks with accessories designed to match the featured characters, allowing players to protect and store their cards in style. With Fabled, the princess motif is carried through one set, while the playful neon energy of A Goofy Movie runs through the other. Sliding a deck into its matching sleeves feels less like storage and more like completion—turning the cards, the box, and the artwork into a unified expression of the game’s themes.

Perhaps the most elegant accessory, though, is The Lore Book, Lorcana’s pocket portfolio for storing and showcasing cards. With room for prized foils and favorite pulls, it transforms a simple binder into a daily keepsake. For traders, it’s a convenient way to share potential swaps; for collectors, it’s a private gallery to admire at will. In our home, flipping through a Lore Book has become as much a part of the hobby as playing a match—an invitation to linger on the artwork and remember the games each card has played.

In that sense, Fabled is less about new mechanics or strategies and more about the stories these decks allow players to tell. One deck speaks of friendship, healing, and perseverance; the other, of family bonds and the joy of standing out. Both, in their own way, extend Disney’s long tradition of weaving magic into everyday spaces—kitchen tables, school clubs, and community game nights.
For those eager to join the story, Ravensburger encourages Illumineers to visit Lorcana.com and use the store locator to find Fabled at local retailers. But perhaps the real magic will be what happens afterward: foil princesses and cartoon rock stars sparring across a paper playmat, laughter spilling from the table, and another chapter of Lorcana’s living tale written in real time.
