Live-Action ‘Lilo & Stitch’ Surfs Past $1 Billion Globally—First MPA Film of 2025 to Do It
Ohana means box office smash! Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch has officially crossed the $1 billion mark worldwide, making it the first Motion Picture Association (MPA) title of 2025 to hit that milestone—and it did so with a big blue BOOM.
After just eight weekends in theaters, the film has racked up a whopping $416.2 million domestically and $584.8 million internationally, making it the #1 global and international MPA release of the year so far.

This historic achievement also puts Lilo & Stitch in elite company, joining Moana 2, Deadpool & Wolverine, and Inside Out 2 as Disney’s billion-dollar box office club members over the past 13 months. Not bad for a story that began with a little girl, a dog-that’s-not-a-dog, and a whole lot of heart.
The film opened on May 23 with a record-shattering $183 million during its four-day Memorial Day debut—the biggest ever for the holiday weekend. It’s also one of just two films this year to surpass $400 million domestically.
Internationally, Lilo & Stitch is hitting high notes across the globe. It’s now:
- The highest-grossing Disney live-action film of all time in Mexico
- The top-performing film of 2025 in several major markets, including France, Italy, Spain, Brazil, and more
The film’s impact goes beyond the box office. With Stitch fever in full swing, the original animated classic and related content on Disney+ have been streamed more than 640 million hours globally. Mahalo, nostalgia!

In response to the film’s success, Disney has confirmed that a sequel is now in development, continuing the legacy of one of Disney’s most beloved and out-of-this-world stories.
As Disney Entertainment Co-Chairman Alan Bergman put it, “We knew there was a lot of love for Lilo & Stitch, yet we never take that for granted. We’re proud of how this new film has connected with people—and we look forward to more adventures with these characters ahead.”
