Comcast NBCUniversal Commits $10 Million to Los Angeles Wildfire Relief and Recovery

As wildfires continue to ravage Los Angeles County, burning over 40,000 acres in just a week, Comcast NBCUniversal (parent company of Universal Parks and Resorts) has announced a $10 million donation to support disaster relief and recovery efforts. This critical contribution underscores the company’s commitment to helping the region rebuild after what has already become one of the deadliest and most destructive wildfire seasons on record—less than two weeks into 2025.

The Scope of the Wildfires

The fires have devastated Los Angeles County, scorching an area roughly the size of Washington, D.C., or 400 Disneylands. An unusually dry fall and winter left vegetation parched and primed for ignition after two wetter-than-average years. A windstorm with hurricane-force gusts exceeding 100 miles per hour further exacerbated the crisis, driving flames at alarming speeds across the region.

Communities such as Pacific Palisades and Malibu have been hard hit by the Palisades Fire, while Altadena has suffered severe damage from the Eaton Fire. In total, an estimated 12,000 homes and structures have been destroyed or damaged. Tragically, at least 24 people have lost their lives in these wildfires.

Cal Fire provided a midweek update on containment efforts:

  • Palisades Fire: 19% containment
  • Eaton Fire: 45% containment
  • Auto Fire: 85% containment (up from 50%)
  • Hurst Fire: 97% containment

Comcast NBCUniversal’s Relief Efforts

To assist families and communities impacted by these fires, Comcast NBCUniversal is donating $2.5 million to the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles’ ReBUILD LA initiative. This funding will aid in rebuilding homes for those who have lost everything. Additional contributions are being made to key organizations working on the ground, including the American Red Cross, Entertainment Industry Foundation SoCal Fire Fund, Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles, and others.

“Our hearts go out to all who have been impacted by these devastating fires, including many in our Comcast NBCUniversal family,” said Brian L. Roberts, Chairman and CEO of Comcast Corporation. “We extend our deep appreciation to the first responders for their tireless and courageous efforts and to our news teams, including NBC4 and KVEA, who are providing vital coverage during this time. We stand ready to support our employees and the broader Los Angeles community as we recover and rebuild from these tragic events.”

Supporting Employees and First Responders

In addition to helping the broader community, Comcast NBCUniversal is also providing comprehensive support for employees affected by the fires. Measures include emergency financial assistance, access to temporary housing at discounted rates, and health and welfare benefits. Through the Comcast NBCUniversal Employee Disaster Assistance Fund, the company is offering grants to employees in need, along with a special double match for employee donations through its Matching Gift Program.

Standing Together

The wildfires have left a devastating impact on Los Angeles, but Comcast NBCUniversal’s $10 million commitment offers a beacon of hope for recovery. With resources being directed to rebuilding efforts, first responders, and impacted families, the company’s contributions will play a vital role in helping the region rise from the ashes.

As containment efforts continue, the focus remains on rebuilding homes, lives, and communities—and on creating a more resilient future for the people of Los Angeles.
