Big Thunder Mountain at Disneyland Paris Set for Major Renovation in 2025

Get ready, adventurers! Disneyland Paris’ iconic Big Thunder Mountain is preparing to temporarily close its tracks for a much-needed renovation starting January 6, 2025. This beloved Frontierland attraction, famous for its Wild West thrills and immersive storytelling, will reopen in early summer 2025 with refreshed elements designed to enhance its charm and preserve its historic magic.

Over a year of preparation has gone into this ambitious renovation, with Walt Disney Imagineering Paris teaming up with Design & Delivery, Maintenance, and Central Workshop teams. Their goal? To maintain the attraction’s immersive Wild West atmosphere, safeguard its creative legacy, and ensure it continues to provide a top-tier experience for guests all year long.

Restoring the Wild West

Central to this project is extensive work on the wooden structures that define the attraction’s rugged aesthetic. After conducting detailed studies, the teams plan to replace parts of the station and other key structures with custom-made, durable wood elements. These new additions will be artfully aged to maintain the authentic look of this gold-rush mine. Iconic elements like the Mill Camp tower and the queue’s décor will also receive thoughtful refurbishments, preserving the ride’s rich Frontierland heritage.

Breathing Life Back into the Details

No detail is too small for Big Thunder Mountain’s creative team. Animal figures, including fan favorites like Billy the goat and the hardworking mules, will be lovingly restored to their original glory by the Central Workshop artisans. Meanwhile, the attraction’s desert landscape will receive a botanical revival, with the re-planting of realistic cacti to capture the spirit of the American Southwest. Imagineers have even consulted archives dating back to the attraction’s 1992 debut to ensure these elements stay true to its original vision.

A Fresh Start for Summer 2025

While Big Thunder Mountain takes its well-deserved break, teams will work tirelessly to ensure its return as “The Wildest Ride in the Wilderness.” When it reopens in summer 2025, guests can expect a revitalized experience, blending the nostalgia of its history with updated comfort and quality. Until then, Frontierland fans will have to wait patiently for the return of this classic Disney adventure.

Mark your calendars—Big Thunder Mountain is set to come roaring back, better than ever, just in time for a summer season packed with fun!
