Local Student Receives Life-Changing Scholarship
A local high school student’s dreams took a significant step forward thanks to a surprise announcement at the HBCU Week Foundation College Fair at Walt Disney World Resort.

Beth Elia, a senior at Evans High School, was awarded on-the-spot acceptance to Bethune-Cookman University (B-CU) along with a $50,000 scholarship. The momentous occasion was celebrated by Walt Disney World Resort President Jeff Vahle, Disney on the Yard executives, and actor Anthony Anderson.

Elia, a dedicated student with a 4.3 GPA, is the first in her family to pursue higher education. She plans to major in criminology with aspirations of becoming an FBI agent. Despite facing family challenges, including her mother’s health issues, Elia remains determined to achieve her goals.
The HBCU Week Foundation College Fair brought together over 5,000 students from across the Southeast and beyond. The event featured representatives from 35 HBCUs and showcased the diverse opportunities available to aspiring college students.
