Florida’s Port Canaveral was Voted Best US Cruise Homeport of 2023
Port Canaveral Secures Title as Best US Homeport for 2023 in Cruise Hive Awards
In a triumphant feat, Florida’s Port Canaveral has clinched the title of the Best US Homeport for 2023 in the prestigious Cruise Hive Awards, marking its fourth consecutive win. Situated along the state’s east coast, Port Canaveral’s recognition was solidified with an impressive 34% of the votes, surpassing its contenders and reaffirming its status as a premier cruise destination.
Port Canaveral’s victory was notably decisive, garnering more than double the votes of the second-place finisher, PortMiami, in a field of nearly 20 competing ports. The annual Cruise Hive Awards, an esteemed tradition since 2014, saw the culmination of voting from October 1 to December 22, 2023. Cruise Hive readers were granted the opportunity to cast their votes in eight categories, with Port Canaveral emerging as the undisputed winner in the Best US Homeport category.

This recognition follows another significant milestone for Port Canaveral earlier in 2023 when the Florida Ports Council revealed that the port had welcomed 4.07 million multi-day passengers in 2022, surpassing Miami and claiming the title of the world’s busiest cruise port for the year. Although PortMiami reclaimed the designation in December for 2023, Port Canaveral’s consistent success underscores its prominence in the cruise industry.
As a preferred homeport for leading cruise lines such as Carnival Cruise Line, Disney Cruise Line, Norwegian Cruise Line, MSC Cruises, and Royal Caribbean International, Port Canaveral offers seamless access to over 50 destinations, including the Caribbean, Bahamas, and Eastern and Western Mexico. Visitors laud the port for its short transfer time from Orlando International Airport, ample parking options, and strategic proximity to popular attractions like Walt Disney World, Universal Studios Florida, and SeaWorld Orlando.
Looking ahead to 2024, Port Canaveral anticipates further growth, projecting the homeporting of 13 cruise ships, hosting 7.3 million passengers, and accommodating 913 ship calls. Captain John Murray, CEO of Port Canaveral, expressed excitement about the future, citing upcoming assets and surprises that will contribute to the port’s continued success in the industry.
