Disney Nature’s “Chimpanzee” – Earth Day 2012.

Disney Nature's "Chimpanzee" - Earth Day 2012.
Chimpanzee, 2012

Since Disney Nature’s inception in 2008, they have created some of the most popular and highest grossing nature films of all-time with titles such as Earth, Oceans and African Cats.  Now, they are at it again with Chimpanzee, which is the remarkable true story of an adorable baby chimp named Oscar.  The film will take audiences right into the forests of Africa where Oscar and his family reside.  The world is a playground for little Oscar and his fellow young chimps, who’d rather make mayhem than join their parents for an afternoon nap. But when Oscar’s family is confronted by a rival band of chimps, he is left to fend for himself until a surprising ally steps in and changes his life forever.  Directed by Alastair Fothergill (African Cats and Earth) and Mark Linfield (Earth), Chimpanzee swings into theaters on Earth Day 2012 (April 20th).

Walt Disney was a pioneer in wildlife documentary filmmaking, producing 13 True-Life Adventure motion pictures between 1948 and 1960, including “Seal Island” (1948), “Beaver Valley” (1950), “The Living Desert” (1953) and “Jungle Cat” (1958).  The films earned eight Academy Awards®.  Chimpanzee seems to be coming out right on the heels of the popular reboot to the Planet of the Apes franchise (Rise of the Planet of the Apes).  However, while those were science fiction, we can expect Disney Nature to give us an intimate real-life look into the lives of these often misunderstood creatures.  Oscar looks like he will be one of the more charming characters to adorn the big screen in 2012.  Check out the trailer, and look out for more info on the Disney Nature release of Chimpanzee.
