Disney CEO Bob Iger Comments on Decline in Disney World Attendance

During today’s Q3 earnings call, Bob Iger, the CEO of Disney, took a moment in his opening remarks to address recent declines observed at Walt Disney World.

Iger highlighted that there has been a mild softening in performance at Walt Disney World in comparison to the prior year, which followed the resounding success of the “highly successful 50th-anniversary celebration.”

As he reiterated from previous discussions, Iger underlined that the post-COVID pent-up demand in Florida is gradually stabilizing, leading to a slight softening in various significant tourism markets within the state. Additionally, the robust value of the dollar is projected to continue tempering international visitation to the region.

Iger went on to emphasize that, notwithstanding the recent fluctuations, Walt Disney World continues to outperform its pre-COVID levels, boasting an impressive 21% increase in revenue and a remarkable 29% surge in operating income compared to fiscal year 2019, once adjusted for the accelerated depreciation related to Star Cruiser.

Furthermore, early indicators display strong enthusiasm from guests eager to plan future visits, with a notable uptick in demand for the recently reintroduced annual passes. This promising trend signals a continued bright outlook for the future of Walt Disney World and its enduring appeal to visitors.
