Disney May Begin Selling Movies & Shows to Rival Platforms. Disney’s streaming division reportedly posted a $1.5 billion loss in the third quarter last year, which pushed the board to remove Chapek and bring Iger out of retirement in the hopes of righting the ship.
Now, prior to the February 8th earnings report word is spreading that Disney may be looking outside its own networks to air Walt Disney-owned intellectual property. Disney sources tell Bloomberg that “pressure to rein in streaming costs could result in the studio selling movies and shows to other companies.” Disney shows would use to show up on Netflix, This would be the first time shows made specifically for the Disney+ network could air elsewhere.
