Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is preparing to move over to Marvel as the lead for the studio’s Disney+ series Wonder Man.
Wonder Man, a.k.a. Simon Williams, isn’t necessarily one of Marvel’s best-known headliners, but he’s got a long history in the comics. Created by writer Stan Lee and artists Don Heck and Jack Kirby, Wonder Man was introduced to Marvel Comics in 1964 via The Avengers #9.
The upcoming series will mark the actor’s third portrayal of a comic book character. He was also in HBO’s Watchmen and Warner Bros.’ Aquaman.

The series will be directed by filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton, who is best known for his work on Marvel’s “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.”
Although Marvel hasn’t released specific plot details yet, in August it was announced that Ben Kingsley will reprise his role as The Mandarin/Trevor Slattery in the upcoming series, who he played in 2021’s “Shang-Chi” and 2013’s “Iron Man 3.”
Also, Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul star Bob Odenkirk is rumored to be up for a role in Mavel’s Wonder Man Disney+ series.
