Universal Orlando settles wrongful death lawsuit over a man who jumped from Aventura Hotel
Universal Orlando has settled a wrongful death lawsuit with the family of a suicidal man who fell from the Aventura Hotel in 2019. According to Orlando Sentinel, the lawsuit was settled last month in mediation.
27-year-old Matthew Bahna fell to his death on August 12, 2019 at about 12:30 a.m. after he climbed an 8-foot wall at Bar 17 Bistro on the 17th floor of Aventure Hotel.
His father, Alfred Bahna, sued several companies, including Loews Corp. and Universal Orlando Resort. He alleged Bar 17 Bistro didn’t have sufficient barriers and that employees served his son too many drinks, impairing his judgment. He was seeking over $30,000 in damages.

Both Loews and Universal denied those allegations in court. A confidential agreement was reached during mediation on August 3 and the case was dismissed on September 6.
