For 56 years, the Disneyland Resort has been an economic engine for Southern California – contributing billions of dollars in support to the local economy, millions of dollars in taxes and thousands of jobs. Despite the recent economic downturn, an independent study conducted in 2009 concluded that the Resort generates $4.7 billion annually for the Southern California economy. Disneyland Resort President George A. Kalogridis shared this information with community leaders at the 2011 State of the Resort event.
He went on to mention that including Disneyland and Disney California Adventure parks, three Disneyland Resort hotels and Downtown Disney, the Resort employs 21,000 cast members and supports an additional 57,000 jobs in Southern California, which include suppliers’ employees.
In addition, the study showed that the Resort generates $255 million in taxes each year for surrounding cities, counties and the state – including hotel, sales, property and income taxes.
