Bob Chapek says Park Reservation System & Genie+ is here to stay

When the Disney parks reopened after the pandemic closures, there were some different policies in place. One of those is the park pass reservation system. Guests must make a park reservation along with having valid admission in order to enter a park. Disney also recently changed the FastPass system to a new paid system called Disney Genie+. Disney CEO Bob Chapek says both of those new systems are here to stay.

In yesterday’s second-quarter earnings call Chapek touted the success of the Park Reservation system. He claims the new system allows the parks to keep costs down. He said, “Our balanced reservation system…helps us manage our price per day.” Knowing how many guests will be visiting each park each day allows Disney to forecast food and beverage sales, staffing needs, and more.

Disney CFO Christine McCarthy also said that limiting guest attendance through the reservation system will increase guest enjoyment. When asked if they would get rid of the park pass reservation system she said, “We could, but we’re choosing to limit attendance via our reservation system… Attendance is something we’re controlling but we’re doing it to have a better consumer experience.”

Chapek also boasted about the success of Disney Genie+. “We’re very, very encouraged by the continuation of the trends that we’re seeing in terms of number of people, for example, the sign-up for Genie+,” he said.

Despite guest complaints, both the park pass reservation system and Disney Genie+ service will be around for the foreseeable future.
