By the Hoary Hosts of Hoggoth!
After months of speculation, the highly-anticipated Marvel Studios movie is finally here! If you want to know our thoughts on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, then keep reading our non-spoiler review of the movie.
In general, the movie delivers a solid Marvel chapter that closes off a few important plot threads from previous stories. It revisits a few major items that were introduced in Phase Four. Plus, it gives us a peak into how Doctor Strange feels after all the traumatic experiences he’s had since Avengers: Infinity War. Benedict Cumberbatch shows us why Doctor Strange is such a unique hero while also taking Stephen on a journey of personal growth. He’s still smug in certain ways, but he opens up emotionally in this movie. It’s a huge step for his character as he embarks on a new adventure.
Benedict Wong deservingly got more screen time in this one as Wong. The new Sorcerer Supreme provided more big moments and big emotions in this project compared to past movies.

The Scarlet Witch
Elizabeth Olsen truly excels as her character in this movie. Wanda seeks the comfort of her children, which is no surprise to those who watched WandaVision. If you have not already seen it, you may want to watch Disney+’s WandaVision series before checking out the new DOCTOR STRANGE movie.
When Wanda learns about the existence of the Multiverse, she dreams of a reality where she can live happily with a normal family. But few things are normal in the MCU, and Olsen gets a number of opportunities to really shine once again in a very complicated role.
The movie expands the scope of the MCU so that it now can begin exploring the complications that can come with parallel universes and alternate versions of the heroes we have grown to love. The sequel is dark and funny, mysterious and scary, and delivers everything fans would want out of a Doctor Strange sequel.
Lastly, I would like to address the tone of the horror elements in Multiverse of Madness. Raimi is known for directing Sony’s original Spider-Man trilogy with Tobey Maguire, but he’s also a notable horror filmmaker, mainly for the Evil Dead franchise.
Raimi brings some of those horror stylings to the Doctor Strange sequel. There are a few jump scares and frightening images that might be too intense for younger viewers. Ultimately, it depends on your kid and what they’re used to. But it is still a PG-13 rated movie. If it helps your judgment, I’d say it’s on par to frightening scenes from Pirates of the Caribbean.
That said, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is still a Marvel movie. It keeps to the entertaining brand of superhero fare and brings a suitable level of comedy to the mix. It was entertaining to us and we know we’ll be rewatching it soon!
Let us know if you plan on seeing the movie this weekend. We hope our Marvel fans enjoy the movie!
