Epcot will soon have the theme park’s first roller coaster when Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind opens in 2022. Disney Imagineer Wyatt Winter recently shared exciting new details about the ride in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Cosmic Rewind‘s “stand-alone” narrative is inspired by the planet Xandar from the Guardians films — including the return of key characters from the film, including the recently announced Glenn Close reprising her role as Nova Prime.

The idea here is the planet of Xandar has come to earth, or ‘Terra,’ as they call it, they’re here to set up the first Other-World Showcase Pavilion. They wanted to come to Earth and reach out and talk about their people, technology, and culture. We’ve done that at Epcot for years where we’ve had other countries come and show their cultures. As you come in, we’re invited to start to learn about the similarities and how we’re all connected. They want to learn as much about us as teaching all of us on earth about Xandar.”

This thrilling new family-friendly coaster matches the “grandosity” and fun of the blockbuster “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, featuring those lovable cosmic misfits – Rocket, Groot, Drax, Gamora and Star-Lord. The attraction is another major milestone in the ongoing transformation of EPCOT and debuts as part of the Walt Disney World 50thAnniversary celebration.

Saving the galaxy this time is gonna take more than a dance-off. Starting summer 2022, guests visiting EPCOT at Walt Disney World Resort better get ready to crank up the mixtape and blast through an awesome intergalactic chase through time and space in Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind!
