#DisneyMustPay Task Force Wants Disney to Pay Creators Properly in Wake of Black Widow Lawsuit. Though we love the stories and tales from Disney there has been a longtime battle between the entertainment conglomerate and the creators of the content we know and love.
Specifically, Disney has been known to work around contracts with creators and artists who develop content for films, books, movies, games, and more, and now with the ‘Black Widow’ Lawsuit blowing the lid off the long-kept battle the #DisneyMustPay Task Force is using the momentum to shine a light on the companies practices.

The #DisneyMustPay Task Force is a group of science fiction/fantasy, romance, crime and horror authors, illustrators, and artists who were allegedly cheated by or had content stolen from them and used without permission by Disney and its various studios such as Lucasfilm, Marvel Studios, Pixar, and more in various capacities. Some have been cheated out of royalties, payment, credit, and that’s just the beginning.
Now, the Task Force is going after Disney in a big way and exposing the company while scrutinizing eyes are turned to their business ethics and practices. The demands are rather simple, these creators want to be paid and recognized for their hard work, and it is sadly simple to see that the motivation behind these practices is simply; money, notoriety, and creative control over intellectual property.

The #DisneyMustPay Task Force says Disney must “respect [Johansson’s] is to pay her properly and not use unethical contractual maneuvers to avoid payment.” Sharing that this is not the first time Disney is using the “twisting of contractual language” to gain the upper hand and cheat creators out of payment and credit. The issues seem to be prominent in content created for companies that were acquired by Disney at various times, primarily in contracts regarding books and comic book creation.
“Writers, artists, illustrators, letterers, and other artists are valued members of the creative teams that produce art and literature that is enjoyed by millions,” said Mary Robinette Kowal, Task Force Chair. “We are inviting these talented artists to share their stories and we will fight for them to receive the money that is owed to them.”
