Disney Confidential – Disney Drops Keys to the World goes with Wristbands?

Disney Confidential - Disney Drops Keys to the World goes with Wristbands?

Hey there guys and gals. Anonymouse here. I have some HUGE gossip today!

Many people who know me know that I am not a tech savvy person. I have to type up my articles and email them to Chimp Chip who is nice enough to post them for me. When I read today’s Gossip I about hit the floor.

Today’s article comes to us from Diz Fanatic where they discuss the evolution of the ‘Keys to the World’. You know your all inclusive Ticket, Meal Plan, Fastpass, Charge Card thing that you use while visiting Walt Disney World.

According to Diz Fanatic Disney will soon be replacing your card with a handy dandy wristband as seen below.

So instead of carrying your card with you everywhere you and your family can strap on your RFID enabled wrist band and swipe your hand when entering the park, checking out merchandise. getting your fastpass, and signing your life over to Mickey Mouse.

According to their site here is how it works:

  • Need to get into your awesome Pirates of the Caribbean themed hotel room?  Just hold your wristband up to the door.
  • At Magic Kingdom gates at 5:30AM for an 8:00 opening?  Just hold your wristband to the turnstile (at 8:00 am).
  • Mmm, time to buy a yummy cinnamon bun at the Main Street Bakery.  Just hold up your wristband to the paystation to pay!
  • Oh, hurry, FastPass to meet Mickey Mouse (or Tinkerbell in my case <3 ).  Just hold up your wristband to the FastPass kiosk.
  • Next? Get that classic photo on Main Street with the castle in the background, and even daddy can get into this photo thanks to PhotoPass.  Just hold up your wristband for the photographer to scan.  (No more digging in your pocket for that card)
  • Love EPCOT?s Kim Possible interactive spy game?  Try some new adventures like a Magic Kingdom Pirate Adventure, an Imagineer’s hidden secrets adventure or even? a romantic adventure??  Use your wristband to keep the adventure going.
  • Can’t wait to show your jealous friends at home that awesome ride video of you on Big Thunder Mountain?  Just hold up your wristband to be sure that it is added to your ‘Enhanced’ PhotoPass account.

I can’t tell you how cool that is even for a technology challenged person like myself. I am sure when Chip reads this he is going to wet himself. He is a NERD ya know 🙂

My post in no way has a 1/10th of the information on their website. I suggest heading over to the Dis Fanatic site and reading the full scoop here.

So I want to hear what you think of this new technology? Is this the mark of the beast we have been waiting for? Or is Disney getting RFID happy? Let me know in the comment box below.

Anywho that is all the Disney Gossip I have right now.

Anonymouse searches the internet, annoys cast members, and wouldn’t think twice about using a Ouija board to find you the freshest Disney Gossip. Some of what she’ll report is confirmed, some is based on information from the rumor mill, and some, frankly, she just read on the bathroom wall in Fantasyland. So take it with a grain of salt and have fun!

  1. I think this is a great idea! Especially for lost children! Would be even better if they could add a ‘gps’ tracking on the kids under 18 so that if your kids want to go seperate from you, then you have the ability to know where they are. I could see a problem for little kids not wanting to wear them, maybe have there’s in an ankle format?? Good start Disney!

  2. It definitely sound intriguing. We are always digging for our KTTW to get into parks, buy food, etc., so in this way it makes much more sense. However, having this to wear 24/7, especially to go out to eat doesn’t sound so nice. Also retrieving fast passes might become way more complicated unless make it so you can request any number of fp’s up to the total in your traveling party? Just an idea 🙂

  3. Just because it’s a theme park doesn’t wave common courtesy. I’m not upset about this…I was just making a point. So no need for me to Chilax. It’s just sad that majority of people would think that breaking in line in front of hundreds of people was alright to do. You can sugar coat it however you want to, but that’s what it amounts to. The right thing to do would be for one person to walk to get the fast passes and the party to wait for them in front of the ride. It’s what we did at animal kingdom. I walked across the park to get a fast pass for expedition everest and then met my wife in front of the safari trek. I saved my wife from the extra walking and yet we weren’t rude to anybody by breaking in line. We walked on the ride together.

  4. Not liking this idea…how do you attach it? Are you gonna have to wear it the whole trip (if they fasten like those cheaper ones at carnivals or dances)? Is it removable? So then my kids wear theirs and then lose them and someone can charge up my credit card..I understand you should make sure your kids are old enough to “handle” them, but seriously..at least with the KTTW we can put them in a pocket..I don’t think this is the answer

  5. My wife thought of this. Perhaps when a child is lost… it can more quickly re-connect a parent and child. With the wristband on the child, it could be scanned, determined who the child is, see others connected to that child and determine where the parent last scanned their bracelet and how long ago. Makes a lot of sense if they are going to consider using the technology this way too.

  6. Since when? I don’t think I have ever been on any of the rides where there weren’t plenty of families doing that. And many of them were in front of me. And I let dad in with a smile every time. It’s a theme park.Chillax. 🙂

  9. We just went on a trip to Disney/Universal, and the amount of line cutting was out of control. I have no problem with one person taking the group’s keys to the world in order to get fast passes for everybody, but returning to a line and breaking in front of everybody is just plain wrong. I understand there are emergency cases (small child has to go to the restroom after family waits in line for 30+ min), but even those situations are questionable at best. Saving spots for family members while they are getting fast passes, food, or riding other rides is wrong, rude & unacceptable.

  10. Hahaha, I’ve been studying Revelation in my ladies Bible study for a year now… the mark of the beast comment made me snort a little! So, just in case anyone is worried, I think that the 666 mark will definitely be non-removable, so we can wear our RFID bracelets with (relative) peace. HA! =) Thanks for the info!

  11. good point…..If they aren’t easy to remove the whole family will have to be in line for a fastpass and so no more getting in line for one ride while dad runs from fastpass machine to fastpass machine getting as many as he can before rejoining us in line for the ride! If they are easy to remove, I think that would be dangerous if someone could easily charge by just swiping someone else’s bracelet…..hopefully they are thinking about all of this!

  12. I prefer to put all the KKTW cards in my handy-dandy lanyard pouch. Not sure about carrying 3 extra wristbands to the fp kiosk. Oh, well, whatever!

  13. This is really cool! I hope this is true! It would make life so much simpler. I am assuming it would be fastened like the bands hospitals use though…fingers crossed!
