California recently announced theme park reopening guidelines. Sadly, Disneyland will not be able to open until Orange County is in the lowest risk tier which could be months from now.
According to Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro, both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure have been ready to open for months. The parks have also passed health and safety inspections by both CA officials and health and safety teams. This week it seems that Disney is taking another step in showing that Disneyland is safe and ready to open up the gates.
Disney officials and California state legislators toured the Disneyland Resort yesterday. Assemblywoman of the 65th Assembly District Sharon Quirk-Silva shared on Twitter:
Today, I had the opportunity to tour @downtowndisney and @Disneyland with a Bi-Partisan group of our State Legislators @AsmPatODonnell, @AsmGrayson, @ChadMayes, and @SenatorPatBates. We wanted to see first-hand the safety protocols that are in place. #tourism #reopenocnow pic.twitter.com/K1rOdIFwwq

Instagram user @californiadisneyfam shared some information about an interview Quirk-Silva gave from the Disneyland Resort. Sharon mentioned that Disney went above and beyond, she spoke to Guests in the Downtown District who felt “very safe,” and that Anaheim businesses will be “lost” if Disney does not open soon. She is one of the state legislators asking Governor Newsom to allow Disneyland to reopen sooner.
Sharon Quirk-Silva also mentioned that she doesn’t want California to “lose that California dream,” and without Disneyland, that dream is quickly fading.
The mayor of Anaheim, Disneyland president, and the California Attractions and Parks Association have all spoken out against the reopening guidelines. Disneyland President Ken Potrock said the guidelines are “unworkable” and CAPA called them “unfair and unreasonable”. Universal Studios Hollywood even posted an attitude-filled tweet on Twitter.
CAPA also held a media conference earlier this week where they shared that some theme parks are looking into legal action. At the moment, Disneyland is not taking any legal action but that could always change.
