News out of California is constantly changing. The state was supposed to announce theme park reopening guidelines this week but now that has been delayed.
The Orange County Register is reporting that state officials will work with theme park operators before finalizing the reopening plans.
“Given the size and operational complexities of these unique sectors, we are seeking additional input from health, workforce and business stakeholders to finalize this important framework — all leading with science and safety,“ said California Health and Human Services Secretary Mark Ghaly in a statement today.
Yesterday the California Attractions and Parks Association, which represents theme parks like Disneyland and Universal Studio, asked state officials not to finalize reopening guidelines just yet. The CAPA wanted state officials to listen to theme park operators recommendations and modify some protocols before finalizing the guidelines.
“We appreciate the administration’s willingness to continue conversations with the amusement park industry before finalizing the industry’s guidance and placement within the blueprint. California’s amusement parks voluntarily closed at the beginning of the pandemic. Since then we have sought an active partnership with the state to develop a responsible reopening plan,” CAPA executive director Erin Guerrero said in a statement.
Hopefully the state and theme parks can come to an agreement soon and the parks can begin the reopening process.
