‘Agents of SHIELD‘ Will Include ‘Agent Carter‘ Crossover in Season 7. As Agents of SH.I.E.L.D. comes to a close in season 7 the popular Marvel series will explore the beginning of it all and even feature a familiar face from their sister ABC series, Agent Carter.
“Season 7 will feature the team trying to save the world from invasion by the Chronicoms, a recurring subplot in the sixth season. They use time travel to do this, allowing the final season to explore the history of S.H.I.E.L.D. and “look back at everything we’ve done”.”
So where does Agent Carter come into play? In the season 7 preview for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. we see none other than Agent Sousa make a brief appearance. Agent Sousa, played by Enver Gjokaj, was first introduced in the shelved series that followed Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter after the events of Captain America: The First Avenger and was a love interest for her character in the series.
“We get to see him in a different light,” says co-showrunner Jeff Bell. “[Sousa] had a particular role on [Agent Carter], and so we were able to show another color of him that you hadn’t necessarily seen on the show.” Gjokaj added, “What’s unexpectedly, for me, really fun is that we realized once we got Coulson and [Sousa] in the same scene that they’re very similar.”
Co-showrunner Jed Whedon shared, “One of the things we think is so fun — especially with Coulson, who’s just a fanboy for S.H.I.E.L.D. history — is them just getting to walk right into [that history]. With Sousa, we had a good opportunity to hit that note with Agent Coulson.”
“It wasn’t anywhere near my brain,” shared Enver Gjokaj about reprising his role. “I would’ve been thrilled at any moment for it to come back, but I think as an actor you don’t have time. You just have to move on to the next project.”
We all know Coulson is a history buff, and getting to see “how it all began” while saving the world leaves the opportunity for the crew to get a (relative) “Happily Ever After” ending, though knowing this series well, there is always a surprise or some lose string to be pulled.
Though we are saddened to see such a wonderful series go, we know that the ever expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe will need the time and attention from Marvel, especially as they move their platform for new Marvel series, such as She-Hulk, Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, Loki, WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, to Disney+.
