Cruise Ships rotating at Port Canaveral due to Coronavirus and lack of space

Several cruise ships including Disney Cruise Line are rotating in and out of Port Canaveral this week after the Coronavirus outbreak put a halt to cruises.

Here is the official word from Disney Cruise Line concerning the temporary suspension:

In an abundance of caution and in the best interest of our guests and employees, Disney Cruise Line previously suspended all new departures beginning Saturday, March 14th, though the end of March. In order to align with a subsequent announcement from Cruise Lines International Association, Disney Cruise Line will now extend the suspension of new departures through April 12, 2020. This precautionary measure applies to all 4 of Disney’s cruise ships.

As previously shared, while we know this decision may be disappointing, the health and well-being of Disney’s Guests and Crew Members are of the greatest importance.

The Disney Fantasy and Disney Magic returned to port today. The Disney Dream will return to Port Canaveral on Monday, March 16. The Disney Wonder, which is currently in the midst of a westbound Panama Canal cruise, will continue on its scheduled itinerary, with Guests disembarking in San Diego on Friday, March 20.

As far as those ships in Florida now there isn’t enough room for all cruise ships to dock at the same time at Port Canaveral so 6 ships (Disney, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, and Carnival) will dock and one will remain offshore and will switch out with the others every few days.

Please note there are no passengers aboard the ships. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is restricting all crewmember movements while vessels are docked in Port Canaveral.  All crewmembers, except U.S. citizens, are to be denied shore leave and remain onboard the vessel.

While work continues at Cruise Terminal 3, Port Canaveral’s newest terminal now under construction, the berth is substantially complete and able to accept a vessel by week’s end, if necessary.
