Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy Says Next ‘Star Wars‘ Film Will Be Directed By A Woman. BBC News recently spoke with Lucasfilm President, Kathleen Kennedy, on the red carpet for the BAFTA Awards and asked if Kennedy still had plans to hire a female director for a future Star Wars featured film. Kennedy was quick and happy to respond with a resounding “Absolutely!”
“We’ve got two or three fantastic women working with Star Wars,” Kennedy said, “And we just brought in Deborah Chow who is doing the Obi-Wan series.” When asked about a female director coming soon to Star Wars, Kennedy says, “Oh absolutely. Without question.”
Kathleen understands that talented directors can come from any background and ethnicity. and is not afraid to implement more diversity at Lucasfilm, having even shared in 2015 that her StoryGroup team has more women than ever before and is actively looking to include even more representation in the future of the studio.
“Six out of eight of the people in my Story Group are women. I think it’s making a huge difference in the kind of stories we’re trying to tell,” Kennedy shared at the time.
Lucasfilm is looking to create more than just Star Wars content in the near future, having already started production on Indiana Jones 5 and a new Willow Series coming to Disney+, we can not wait to see the future of the studio as it branches out to tell even more incredible stories.
